AIFP Seminar; Rails and Ties; HIFF's Centerpiece

Make sure to come to the American Immigrant Filmmakers on Profile Seminar today at 6pm! It's free, but you'll need a ticket to get in. Just get a ticket from the lobby box office when you arrive at Dole Cannery. This seminar, sponsored by the Vilcek Foundation, will feature six filmmakers who have immigrated to America. They will talk about overcoming language and cultural barriers to make their films here. The four films by these filmmakers in our festival are: Owl and the Sparrow, The Rebel, The Gatekeeper of Enmyoin, Finishing the Game.

Tonight is also the Hawaii premiere of Rails and Ties, Alison Eastwood's debut film as a director. (Yes, she's Clint's daughter) I'm not 100% sure about this, but I heard some rumors that she'll be coming to the screening for a Q&A session afterwards.

Also at Dole is one of the two Centerpiece films, Diving Bell and the Butterfly. This is a French film about a magazine editor who is almost completely paralyzed after suffering a stroke. He can only communicate by blinking and moving his left eye. He figures out a code in these eye movements to write a memoir of his life.
