I had this friend who said he saw BAND OF OUTSIDERS in a movie theater once and it changed his life a little. Now I want my life to change a little!
As the last vintage movie house on Oahu, Queen Theater on Waialae Ave in Kaimuki would be the perfect venue for these sort of films. Concerned residents are already forming a coalition to save it, which you can read all about in the June 23rd issue of the Honolulu Weekly. Be a part of their cinephile army? Visit friendsofqueentheater.org and join their email list to add your signature to their "1,000 Friends of Queen Theater" petition.

Did a post about it on my blog awhile back. It would be cool to save the landmark, you'd have to evict all those business there though.

@evilgenius: I just spoke with two Friends of the Queen Theater founding members about possible evictions and here's what they had to say:
"Not true. The only reason would be if the theatre wanted more space for some reason. There is actually an alley/walkway between the back of the shops and the theatre building wall (for exit purposes). If someone wanted to enlarge the stage, then they might want to utize space to the rear of the theatre, which is another separate building (owned by the same person who owns the theatre)." - Lowell Angell, local theater historian, author of the upcoming book, Theatres of Hawai'i
"An exit corridor is between the existing business and the building. I peeked in one day when someone was working. They might want to tear down the buildings in the front, but I do not think that would even be an issue when nominating the buildings for the National Historic Register because the Queen is a frestanding structure as were the original buildings shown in old photographs." - Deborah Lowry, Chaminade University interior design professor
