YESTERDAY AT THE FESTIVAL...

The Festival's youngest-ever Korean director, seventeen year old Ji-Hyun Kim, waits with cinematographer Jason Inouye.

Ji-hyun Kim's debut short screens in Hawaii Panorama 4. Jason's video for the Black Eyed Peas screens in Indie Rules the World!

Maggie Cheung charms an excited Hawaii press corps, at LVHIFF's opening day news conference at the Moana Surfrider.

Suzanne Piper (Lo-Fi Cinema's Roommate from Hell) stands with Nigel Ruth and director Helen Grace (Winner Takes All)!

Nigel and Helen were ready for opening night, despite a nineteen hour marathon flight from the UK! Yet they wonder: how will their shockingly funny short fare in the United States?!?

Last night's kickoff of the LVHIFF 2004 was a rousing success! The U.S. premiere of Olivier Assayas' CLEAN starring Cannes winner Maggie Cheung was unveiled last night at the gala premiere in the newly restored historic Hawaii Theatre in downtown Honolulu. 1,200 moviegoers were treated to a traditional Hawaiian chant and a festive lion dance before HIFF Board President Jeff Portnoy and Executive Director Chuck Boller came on stage and introduced the ravishing Maggie Cheung who looked surprised at the enormous crowds and outpour of aloha. Cheung said she was excited to be here, especially since it is her first trip to Hawaii and she was honored to present the film here.
