2018 Annual Report
The 38th edition of the Hawai‘i International Film Festival (HIFF) presented by Halekulani was a landmark year for the organization. We saw record numbers of attendees and guests including cinema legend Director Wong Kar-Wai and breakout star Awkwafina; expanded our support of local students island-wide through new educational programs for middle, high and college-age students; launched a new, free, public virtual reality exhibit as part of the festival; greatly increased our free member screenings and year round presence on Oahu; and for the first time in ten years, relaunched our partnership with the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, once again showcasing local and international cinema on four of the Hawaiian islands.
In 2018, HIFF presented over 250 films from over 35 countries, continuing our legacy to advance understanding and cultural exchange among the peoples of Asia, the Pacific and North America by presenting films from around the world. We are thrilled to continue as the longstanding film festival of record for the Pacific, and we look toward the future with excitement and momentum into 2019 and our 40th anniversary in 2020.
