After the tragic death of her husband, perennially positive mother Kaori (Ryoko Shinohara) had to work extra hard to raise her two daughters. Now that the older daughter has grown up and moved out, she thought her load would lighten up a little. Unfortunately, her rebellious teenage daughter Futaba (Kyoko Yoshine) makes her job twice as difficult. After continually disrespecting her and ignoring her instructions, Kaori discovers the cutest and most annoying way to get back at Futaba: by making sickeningly sweet chara-ben (character bento) lunches for her. Her bento boxes draw the attention of Futaba’s classmates, much to her chagrin, but Kaori isn’t giving up until her daughter finally reforms.

Set in the breathtakingly lovely island of Hachijojima, this cute, colorful, and refreshing film will have the entire family laughing, crying, and craving for a yummy bento box. Bento Harassment “offers fresh twists on the perennial theme of inter-generational strife as well as on familiar foodie movie tropes” – JAPAN TIMES
