Spotlight on KoreaYoon-Seok Kim
High school student Joo-ri (Kim Hye-jun) discovers that her father (Kim Yoon-seok) has been having an affair, and with no less than the mother of her schoolmate, Yoon-ah (Park Se-jin). After a schoolyard confrontation, Joo-ri’s mother learns about the affair as well. To top it all off, Yoon-ah’s mother is also pregnant with Joo-ri’s father’s unborn son. As Joo-ri’s father shirks away from his responsibilities and both mothers try to deal with the situation as best as they can, Joo-ri and Yoon-ah must begrudgingly learn together what it means to be a family, what it means to take responsibility, and what it means to be big sisters to ANOTHER CHILD.
In his directorial debut, Kim Yoon-Seok already seems quite masterful in bringing out noteworthy performances from his cast. Subdued and thoughtful, the spare visuals highlight the emotions of the characters, especially that of the two girl protagonists as they learn and mature with each other.
“The film offers drama, humor and warmth in equally competent manner. It heralds the coming of a strong new directorial voice, who manages to impress with a very real, very engaging coming-of-age story that is populated with genuine characters and an eye for detail” (Asian Movie Pulse)
