THE LAST COLOR
Spotlight on IndiaVikas Khanna
Adaptation of Chef Vikas Khanna's novel, THE LAST COLOR which follows a friendship between two people struggling on the outskirts of the ancient Indian cities of Vrindavan and Banaras. A nine-year-old fearless tightrope walker and flower seller Chhoti hopes to save enough money to attend school. Chhoti befriends Noor, a white-clad widow who is forced to live a life of abstinence and is disallowed from taking part in any local festivities, especially Holi, the Indian festival of colors.
Over time, Chhoti and Noor's friendship and uplifting spiritual bond breaks through the class and gender barriers of the caste system, as Chhoti promises Noor that she will someday be able to splash colors as she had done in her youth. This story is inspired by the history of Holi itself, where people splash color on one another as a symbol of rebirth and freedom. THE LAST COLOR is a story of promises kept and promises broken, a boundless, transcending friendship, and the power of the human spirit against centuries of oppressive, archaic law to experience the colors of life once again.
