Horror film aficionados should be familiar with the chilling Australian masterpiece GOODNIGHT MOMMY from directors Veronica Franz and Severin Fail. The directing duo return with their latest, and first English language film, THE LODGE, which would best be encapsulated an amalgam of CABIN FEVER with elements from THE SHINING.

This bone-chilling new nightmare follows a family who retreat to their remote winter cabin over the holidays. When the father (Richard Armitage) is forced to abruptly depart for work, he leaves his children, Aidan (IT's Jaeden Martell) and Mia (Lia McHugh) in the care of his new girlfriend, and future stepmom Grace (Riley Keough). Isolated and alone, a blizzard traps them inside the lodge as terrifying events summon specters from Grace’s dark past.

Claustrophobic to say the least, THE LODGE is an extremely well-crafted film. It is a relentless, mind-bending psychological nightmare in which the threat of demons from one’s past are always lurking. The film also strengthens the argument that we are living in a Neo-Horror Renaissance in cinema. Directors Franz and Fail join the ranks of other “elevated” horror conjurers like Ari Aster (HEREDITARY, MIDSOMMAR), Mike Flanagan (THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE, DOCTOR SLEEP), Jennifer Kent (THE BABADOOK, THE NIGHTINGALE), and the recent resurgence of everything Stephen King.
