EO is the featured donkey in a Polish one-ring circus that goes bankrupt. He’s repossessed along with the other animals but soon breaks loose and begins a fateful journey across Europe, encountering the best and worst in humanity. Along the way he encounters a young priest, a Countess, a rowdy soccer team, and society’s cultural and environmental ills, all on his journey to freedom.
Presented through Eo’s eyes, EO depicts the state of human affairs. As his travels become travails, his fate reflects the disinterest of humans in anything but their own insatiable and ultimately destructive appetites. A contemporary take on Robert Bresson’s 1966 classic AU HASARD BALTHAZAR, this Cannes award-winner from writer/director Jerzy Skolimowski is striking, sometimes surreal, and sometimes shocking, supported by a dream-like soundscape, only occasionally interrupted by minimal dialogue. A visual feast, and a must-see 2022 festival hit.
