SYNOPSIS

Mid-1850s, Satsuma domain, Japan. The country is in the throes of the end of the Tokugawa period, with foreign influence and incursion ever-increasing. While a few see the inevitability of change, many cling to the shogunate and the traditional way of life. Tomoatsu Godai is a young man with a radical vision for the future, a vision that puts him at odds with most of his domain.

Godai believes that by learning technology used overseas, he can transform the country and bring Japan into the modern age. The problem is, no one agrees with him and getting overseas to study seems impossible. Will this young visionary manage to usher in a prosperous future for the country he so loves? The true story of Tomoatsu Godai, inspired entrepreneur and one of the leading figures of the Meiji restoration. Starring the late Haruma Miura in one of his best performances and last roles.
