Event Details

Since 2017, members of Coral Gardeners association in Moorea, French Polynesia, have been mobilizing to replant coral in the seabed of their island, neighboring Tahiti. This initiative led by Titouan Bernicot, 21 years old, now brings together volunteers aged from 14 to 25 years. This mobilization is the result of an observation: the bleaching of corals due to global warming and the endangerment of these living organisms necessary for marine biodiversity. This documentary devoted to the Coral Gardeners association of Moorea, aims to highlight their actions: from the collection of corals broken by human or natural phenomena, to the fixing of these corals on bamboo stems in a nursery underwater, right up to the final cuttings on coral heads, through awareness-raising actions with the population and young people in particular, in French Polynesia or in France, but also through days intended for the general public, and their sponsorship action “Adopt a coral”. This documentary is at the same time a plea for the protection of the environment, the fight against global warming, but also the highlighting of this youth who is mobilized across the world to save the planet from an ecological disaster, as the students climate protests in several countries since 2018, as the ones led by young Swedish Greta Thunberg. This documentary is supported by scientific testimony with a specialist from the Moorea Criobe Coral and a metropolitan oceanographer who joined the movement.
