THE BONDS OF CLAY

未来へのかたち

The latest Ehime-set drama from Kenichi Omori, director of THE BOOK PEDDLER, THE BONDS OF CLAY is a heartfelt tale of love, loss, and yes pottery!

Ryusei (Atsushi Ito) is a young and enthusiastic potter who runs a small studio in the famous pottery town of Tobe in pursuit of a new Tobeyaki ware style of pottery. His father Tatsumi (Isao Hashizume) also runs a pottery studio across town, however, the two are not on speaking terms. When Ryusei’s brother Tatsuya (Hidetaka Yoshioka) returns home after many years away, he has some unwelcome plans in mind to mend the broken bonds in his family…

At Tatsuya’s request the town sets up a tobeyaki ware competition to create a cauldron for the Olympic torch for the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Not everyone in town is so enthused about this idea, but everyone wants to throw in a bid, including Ryusei and his father. But when an unexpected design is named the winner, the family may have to join forces, for the sake of the town and their reputation.
