ONLY IN AOTEAROA: WAHINE EDITION

Only in Aotearoa 3 is a vibrant comedy sketch series crafted by wāhine Māori (Māori women) that offers a unique lens on everyday life from their perspective. Each episode smoothly integrates Reo Māori (Māori language) into its narrative, and flows through different settings including a doctor''s office to a boardroom, a cooking show, and out the back of a wharenui (traditional meeting house). The show also created ‘Boardroom Appropriation’ which sees cultural appropriation flipped on its head, where Māori appropriate English culture for their own company profits. Opening the door for women to shine on a comedy platform and from a cultural perspective gives us more opportunity to see how funny we are, to celebrate ourselves and give ourselves permission to laugh. These sketches were a success across social media platforms and allowed for normalisation of culture and language.
