WATER BODIES

Two women, Kapulei and Chelsey, explore the spiritual significance of water in their hometown, Waimea, Hawaiʻi, through the story of Manaua, the sacred guardian of water. Manaua has been called upon during times of drought to replenish the waters of Waimea. Kapulei illustrates a period, decades ago, when Waimea experienced severe water scarcity, and members of her family uncovered the forgotten and overgrown rock of Manaua, and adorned it with leis to ask for rain. The rain returned to Waimea, and Kapulei continues her family''s tradition of lei making to honor Manaua today. Chelsey illuminates the meaning of water as a life force that flows from generation to generation.
