ILLUMINATION HAWAII: A PROJECT FOOTPRINT STORY

As an island community, with limited resources that are impacted by climate, Hawai‘i has a greater urgency to find a sustainable way to use our natural resources without exploiting them. Energy and climate are two of the biggest priorities for humankind today. This special 1-hour documentary will catalyze conversations around climate mitigation and adaptation, clean energy transformation, conservation and decarbonizing our economy. It's the ''kākou thing,'' to navigate a path forward, toward a resilient and sustainable future. Polynesian Voyaging Society President and Hōkūleʻa Navigator Nainoa Thompson says in the film, “We’re in the race between those who are hurting the earth, and those who are healing it . . . It’s our time to turn the canoe to the only island we have. And that’s the earth.” You’ll also hear from other Hawai‘i leaders, including President Barack Obama, Maya Soetoro, Celeste Connors, Micah Kāne and the late Pono Shim. Music by John Cruz. Hosted by Kathy Muneno.
