The King of the Monsters returns! HIFF46 announces a surprise screening of the highly anticipated sequel ahead of its nationwide theatrical release.
GODZILLA MINUS ZERO, the anticipated sequel to the global phenomenon GODZILLA MINUS ONE, will screen as a Special Sneak Peek on Wednesday, November 4 at 8:00 PM at Consolidated Theatres Kapolei, two days before its nationwide theatrical release on November 6!
This special presentation gives Hawai‘i audiences an early look at the next chapter of one of cinema’s most iconic franchises.
FROM MINUS ONE TO MINUS ZERO
In 2023, writer-director Takashi Yamazaki revitalized the legendary Japanese monster franchise with GODZILLA MINUS ONE, combining breathtaking visual effects, deeply human storytelling, and a powerful meditation on Japan’s postwar trauma. The film became an international sensation and made history as the first Japanese film to win the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
Now, Yamazaki returns as writer, director, and visual effects supervisor for GODZILLA MINUS ZERO, set in a Japan still recovering from war and Godzilla’s terrifying rampage.
Set in 1949, two years after GODZILLA MINUS ONE, the film follows a nation struggling to rebuild. Just as humanity begins to embrace a hard-won peace, a terrifying new threat emerges.
War reduced Japan to zero. Godzilla plunged it into minus.
This time, there can be no second chances.
Returning cast members include Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Kuranosuke Sasaki, and Hidetaka Yoshioka, alongside acclaimed actors Jun Kunimura, Masami Nagasawa and Min Tanaka.
A MONSTER-SIZED SURPRISE FOR WEST O‘AHU!
As HIFF46 expands across O‘ahu, we’re excited to bring this major cinematic event to Consolidated Theatres Kapolei, giving West O‘ahu audiences a chance to be among the first in Hawai‘i to experience one of the year’s most anticipated Japanese blockbusters.
From its origins as a metaphor for nuclear devastation and postwar anxiety to its evolution into a worldwide pop culture phenomenon, Godzilla remains one of Japan’s most enduring cinematic creations. GODZILLA MINUS ZERO continues that legacy with spectacular kaiju thrills and the emotional weight that made its predecessor a landmark achievement.
Whether you’re a lifelong Godzilla fan, a lover of Japanese cinema, or seeking an unforgettable big-screen experience, this is one HIFF46 event you won’t want to miss.
