Programmer’s Picks: Attend the Panel with Director GRACE LEE this Saturday

Grace Lee is a Peabody-award-winning filmmaker whose credits include AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY: THE EVOLUTION OF GRACE LEE BOGGS, the doc series AND SHE COULD BE NEXT, ASIAN AMERICANS, and THE GRACE LEE PROJECT, which brought her to Hawaii to interview Hawaii News Now reporter Grace Lee.

Her latest documentary feature, Based in Los Angeles, she is a member of the Documentary Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and co-founder of Asian American Documentary Network (A-DOC). Her latest feature FOREVER WE ARE YOUNG (co-directed with Patty Ahn) is our Closing Night Film at ‘Opio Fest.

For all you budding filmmakers, both narrative and documentary formats, HIFF ‘Opio Fest is also hosting Grace Lee with an insightful panel called THE DOCUMENTARY VISION OF GRACE LEE – FROM STORYTELLING TO IMPACT, scheduled for Saturday, April 12, 11:30am.

The heart of HIFF ‘Ōpio Fest is to provide a forum for Hawaii’s filmmakers (both students and established creatives) to interact with industry professionals to spark discussion, impart advice and get a lay of the land when it comes to the current state of the film industry.

In addition to her illustrious filmmaking career, Grace also founded A-DOC, a national network that works to increase the visibility and support of Asian Americans in the documentary field. Also, as an AMPAS member, she is part of the voting body for the Academy Awards.
