THE WAVES WILL CARRY US
人生海海
When Ah Yao returns to Malaysia for his father’s funeral, he expects mourning, not chaos. Religious authorities interrupt, claiming his father secretly converted to Islam and must be buried in a Muslim cemetery. Determined to honor their traditions, Ah Yao and his siblings embark on a darkly comic quest to reclaim the body, confronting family secrets and cultural tensions along the way. The film is the latest narrative feature from acclaimed Malaysia-born, Taiwan-based filmmaker Kek-huat Lau.
