AN AUTUMN’S TALE
A story about a New York Chinatown cab driver who falls for college student.
Directed by HIFF favorite Mabel Cheung (THE SOONG SISTERS, CITY OF GLASS) in 1987, AN AUTUMN’S TALE follows a young woman named Autumn (Cherie Chung) who moves to New York City to pursue her studies. There, she meets a fellow Chinese immigrant and develops a romantic relationship with him (Chow Yun-fat). As their relationship progresses, Autumn is confronted with cultural differences and the challenges of immigrant life in a foreign land. Throughout her journey, she gains insights into the complexities of love and the importance of true friendship. AN AUTUMN’S TALE is a Hong Kong classic that is also an ode to the magic of New York City, captured as place where people come from all over the world to re-invent themselves. Both Chow Yun-fat and Cherie Chung make such a gorgeous couple, with Chow especially already showcasing his charisma in becoming one of the greatest Hong Kong actors of his generation.
