In a fearless, career-defining performance, Sydney Sweeney embodies Martin’s extraordinary fight for survival—both inside and outside the ring.

 

Born in West Virginia and dubbed the “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” Christy rose from local “Toughwoman” contests in the late 1980s to become a pioneer in a sport barely recognized at the time. Trained by coach Jim Martin (Ben Foster), she built a groundbreaking career while enduring a turbulent marriage defined by drugs, corruption, and relentless abuse. Her triumphs in boxing were shadowed by private horrors that culminated in an act of violence that nearly cost her life.

 

Co-written by Michôd and Mirrah Foulkes, CHRISTY confronts misogyny, domestic violence, and sexual identity with unsparing honesty, honoring Martin’s resilience while refusing to sensationalize her suffering. The result is a fierce, unforgettable story of survival and self-determination.
