HERO’S ISLAND
Takarajima
Set in 1952, when Okinawa was still under U.S. occupation, Hero’s Island traces the turbulent lives of four young rebels who once raided American military bases to feed their community. Their charismatic leader On vanished after a daring heist with a “prize” far greater than planned, leaving childhood friends Gusuku, Yamako, and Rei to divergent fates—a detective, a teacher, a gangster. Decades later, a violent incident and a U.S. search for the missing loot pull them back together, unearthing buried secrets and the unhealed scars of war.
Directed by Keishi Otomo (RUROUNI KENSHIN), and adapted from Junjo Shindo’s Naoki Prize–winning novel, this sweeping historical epic evokes the grandeur of ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA and GANGS OF NEW YORK. Featuring powerhouse performances by Satoshi Tsumabuki, Suzu Hirose, Masataka Kubota, and Eita Nagayama, HERO’S ISLAND is a riveting saga of friendship, betrayal, and the lingering shadows of occupation.
