SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT
風林火山
Juno Mak’s long-awaited crime epic SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT, which world premiered at Cannes, is a visually arresting, emotionally charged descent into Hong Kong’s underworld. Set against a city teetering on the edge of chaos, the film follows an ensemble of fractured lives entangled by greed, addiction, and the ghosts of the past. At its center is a psychiatrist whose encounters with troubled youths pull him into a violent collision with triads, drug lords, and corrupt forces operating in the shadows.
With its neon-soaked cinematography, intricate plotting, and operatic scope, Mak channels both the grit of classic Hong Kong crime sagas and the psychological unease of modern noir. Featuring powerhouse performances from a stellar cast—including Tony Leung Ka-fai, Louis Koo, Takeshi Kaneshiro, and Lau Ching-wan—the film meditates on loneliness, morality, and survival in a city where darkness lurks beneath every glowing sign. A decade in the making, SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT is both brutal and hauntingly beautiful.
