A Japanese remake of the celebrated 2022 French film UNE BELLE COURSE, veteran director Yoji Yamada (TWILIGHT SAMURAI, TOKYO FAMILY, TORA-SAN series) crafts a tender, humanistic drama that unfolds within the fleeting encounters of a taxi ride through Japan’s capital. Takuya Kimura stars as Koji, a disillusioned middle-aged taxi driver who spends his nights ferrying strangers across Tokyo’s restless streets. One afternoon, he picks up Sumire (Chieko Baisho from PLAN 75), an elderly woman who insists on revisiting places from her past before dawn. What begins as a routine fare turns into a profound journey through memory, regret, and unexpected connection. As Koji listens to Sumire’s stories—of lost love, wartime struggles, and the resilience of rebuilding—he finds himself confronting his own disappointments and rediscovering a sense of purpose.
