‘ōpio fest RETURNS APRIL 8 – 13, 2025

HIFF ‘Ōpio Fest, a film festival dedicated to spotlighting Hawai’i’s next gen filmmakers and creators, is a memorable family event with a suite of film screenings, workshops, and panels. Make plans to join us at the second annual HIFF ‘Ōpio Fest in Honolulu, Hawai’i at Consolidated Theatres Kahala, April 8 – 13, 2025. 

 

Deadline: We’re accepting submissions in two categories until January 15th 9:00PM HST. It is free to submit. Start by creating a free account on FilmFreeway to upload your film, then submit to HIFF ‘Ōpio Fest at filmfreeway.com/hiffopiofest

 

‘Ōpio Student Showcase Category

Eligibility: Students in high school or younger who reside in Hawai’i
Length: 1 – 10 minutes

Theme: Your best film from any genre—hateful or explicit content won’t be considered
Prize: An award for ‘Best Student Film’ will be given at a public screening at HIFF ‘Ōpio Fest. All finalists will have their film screened at Consolidated Theatres Kahala. 

 

Future Filmmakers Showcase Category

Eligibility: Students in high school or middle school who reside in Hawai’i or Alaska
Length: 1 – 4 minutes

Theme: Together We Thrive  Learn more on our Future Filmmakers page

Prize: An award for ‘Best Student Film’ to a high school and middle school film will be given at a public screening at HIFF ‘Ōpio Fest. All finalists will have their film screened at Consolidated Theatres Kahala.

ERIC BAUZA

Eric Bauza was the Future Filmmakers Youth Ambassador for 2024! He is one of the most in demand voiceover artists, winning an Emmy for Outstanding Voice Performance as Bugs Bunny, Marvin the Martian, Daffy Duck, and Tweety in the LOONEY TUNES Cartoons series. He has received nominations for his work as the title character in THE ADVENTURES OF PUSS IN BOOTS and MUPPET BABIES and has voiced characters in THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE and many more!
