The story may sound familiar—a father takes justice into his own hands to rescue his kidnapped daughter—but The Furious, directed by action maestro Kenji Tanigaki (HIFF45’s Maverick Award Honoree for his groundbreaking contributions to Hong Kong action cinema), elevates the premise into a landmark showcase of pan-Asian martial arts cinema. 

Xie Miao stars as Wei, a determined father whose journey recalls his earlier roles alongside Jet Li in THE NEW LEGEND OF SHAOLIN and MY FATHER IS A HERO. He’s joined by Joe Taslim (THE RAID: REDEMPTION, WARRIOR) as a relentless journalist searching for his missing wife, played by Jija Yanin (CHOCOLATE), whose investigation into a powerful syndicate may hold the key to Wei’s daughter’s fate. The villains are no less formidable: Yayan Ruhian (THE RAID, LONE SAMURAI also screening at HIFF45) as a lethal archer, Joey Iwanaga as an unhinged heir to the criminal empire, and Brian Le (EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE) as a surprising powerhouse whose physicality electrifies every encounter.
