Set in the early 2000s, in an urban town near Hanoi, DON’T CRY, BUTTERFLY revolves around Tam, a middle-aged housewife, who discovers that her husband is having an affair. Devastated and desperate to pick up the pieces, Tam decides to use voodoo to make him fall back in love with her. But instead of getting her desired result, she accidentally summons a mysterious supernatural force into her home. Director Dương Diệu Linh''s directorial feature debut continues her exploration of modern Vietnam''s social norms and shows a willingness to unpack them in wry and magical ways. This film is nominated for the Kau Ka Hōkū Award presented by Hawaiian Airlines.
