This special program showcases a selection of Tahara’s short films, including his acclaimed Hawaiian Legends series, which vividly chronicles Native traditions, everyday life, and Hawai‘i’s transforming landscapes. Blending artistry with documentary insight, Tahara’s work stands as an invaluable visual record of a rapidly changing era and a cornerstone of Hawai‘i’s local film history, inspiring generations of filmmakers to honor and protect the islands’ cultural heritage. This special compilation program showcases examples from his filmography—Hawaiian Legends, Hawaiian Culture and Contemporary Stories, plus a 1994 profile of Tahara. The program will be followed by a 30-minute panel discussion. "
