UNFINISHED STORY
흔적
UNFINISHED STORY, a co-production of KBFD, is a documentary about the first generation of Koreans who immigrated to Hawai‘i 120 years ago. Ever since the first group of 102 Koreans arrived, Korean immigrants have been rooted as members of this community. Korean immigrants also had a special mission, devoting themselves to strive and politically foster independence of their homeland from Japanese occupation. With the money earned from working in sugarcane plantations, Koreans raised funds to support the court-defense of an independence activist who fought against Japanese colonial rule. Furthermore, they established schools and organized self-governing bodies to strengthen their Korean identity. However, their efforts are not well-known to the world.
This film is a record of two years of searching for these unfinished stories. It is a process of finding the names of those who sacrificed for their homeland, and identifying them to the world. Finally, this film is dedicated to the unsung heroes of the Korean independence movement in Hawai‘i, whose efforts otherwise would have been lost forever.
