WICKED LITTLE LETTERS

Based on an incredible true story unearthed from the 1920s, WICKED LITTLE LETTERS sees the post-war seaside town of Littlehampton entangled in a dark and absurd scandal.

This ferociously funny mystery follows two neighbors: deeply conservative local Edith Swan (Olivia Colman) who lives with her elderly parents, and rowdy Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley), an Irish single mother who migrated to the town after the war. She lives with her young daughter Nancy (Alisha Weir), and new love Bill (Malachi Kirby). A growing friendship between the pair is cut short when Rose holds her own against Edith’s strict and disapproving father Edward (Timothy Spall) at his birthday party. In the wake of the showdown, Edith and fellow residents begin to receive wicked letters full of unintentionally hilarious profanities. Foul-mouthed Rose becomes the prime suspect, and a trial ensues. The anonymous letters prompt a national uproar. If found guilty, she risks imprisonment and losing Nancy for good. Only something seems amiss – at least, that’s what’s weighing on the mind of Police Officer Gladys Moss (Anjana Vasan), an aspirational sleuth whose male peers undermine her at every turn. With the help of a small group of similarly unconvinced local women, Moss must race against the clock to find the true identity of the foul-mouthed criminal and clear Rose’s name. What they discover will change their small town forever.
