ZURAWSKI V TEXAS

The case is named after plaintiff Amanda Zurawski, who was denied an emergency abortion and went into septic shock, having to spend three days in the ICU. As a result of this terrifying ordeal, her tubes were damaged and had to be reconstructed. All this because the state of Texas instituted a six-week abortion ban, thanks to the Supreme Court''s overturning of Roe v. Wade two years ago. Early in 2023, Zurawski made the decision to sue the state of Texas with the help of the Center for Reproductive Rights. She was soon joined by four other women with similar horror stories, as well as two OB-GYNs. This urgent and necessary documentary on the far-right''s attack on American women''s basic health care was produced by Hillary Clinton and her daughter Chelsea, along with actor Jennifer Lawrence. It takes us through every aspect of the legal battle the plaintiffs face, from studying and case-prepping by facing harsh questions when they take the stand.. This film is nominated for the Kau Ka Hōkū Award presented by Hawaiian Airlines.
