BRAIDS

English

As Raven prepares for school picture day, his braids become the focal point of ridicule, forcing him to confront his identity in an environment that does not understand or value his traditions. The pressure culminates when the school staff, embodying Colonized norms, insist that Raven cut his hair to appear ''professional'' for the school picture. The emotional climax of the film leaves Raven physically and emotionally altered but also sets the stage for a powerful reaffirmation of identity and culture. A story of resilience.
